Marriage Equality a vote for a happier healthier Hume

Australia’s Marriage Equality plebiscite has returned a majority vote for improved equality and wellbeing for the community.

Dianella Health is proud Australia is a step closer to joining the twenty six other countries and more than 840 million people around the world who want everyone to live and love without fear of discrimination.

By legalising same-sex marriage, a wide range of positive health and wellbeing outcomes will benefit both the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Intersex, Queer or Questioning (LGBTIQ), and wider communities.

“The stress and trauma caused by discrimination often leads to worse health outcomes for LGBTIQ people” said Dianella Health Acting CEO Sue Sestan. “The negative psychological impact of limiting a human right such as same sex marriage often contributes to associated health problems and higher rates of substance abuse and suicide within this group. Dianella welcomes the Marriage Equality result because we’re committed to Hume being the inclusive and healthy community we all want it to be.”

For more than 40 years, Dianella has valued and respected the diverse community it works with. Regardless of sexuality, gender, faith, cultural background, socio-economic status, ability or age, we embrace and respect the rich diversity of Hume in the planning and delivery of our health services.

Dianella Health support human rights such as gender equality, the elimination of racial discrimination and the promotion of cultural and religious diversity.
